Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Chief Executive officer Dr Ezekiel Mutua has called upon Kenyan artists to produce clean content that promotes the societal values.

The MCSK C.E.O reminded artists that they are competing with world musicians and should therefore up their game to be competitive enough.

“I’m calling on our amazing artists to up their game because we are competing with  the world. Let it be music that is intentionally promoting hope and positive social values and unites people . Let it be music that someone in PSV at the verge of committing suicide listens to and change their course. Let us sing for a course and a reason. People are going through a lot, you don’t add another toxicity to music”

While citing  Ssaru’s Kaskie Vibaya Huko Kwenu song, the C.E.O wondered the moral lesson of the song to the society and what it taught ladies.

“This Girl singing to the ex-boyfriend and she is saying now I’m dating your father, niko na pesa na ni ya babako nenda uskie vibaya na huko… I mean what are you telling my daughter?”

He therefore urged singers to be keen and ensure that their contents is worth being promoted as a way of life in society and not just create anything that breaches societal norms for the sake of gaining likes and shares.

“Let us have an introspection. I’m okay with secular guys doing that but I want them to know that those are not the kind of things we want to promote as a way of life”
