Faith Kipyegon Breaks 5000M World Record

Faith Kipyegon broke the world record in the 5000 meters yesterday night in Paris.

 

Faith Kipyegon clocked a time of 14:05.20 to break the world record in the 5,000 meters in Paris. This occurs a week after she broke the world record for a 1,500-meter race in Paris.

 

She broke the record, which was previously held by Ethiopian Gidey, who finished second in a time of 14:07.94, while Taye was third in a time of 14:13.31.

 

Speaking after breaking the world record, Kipyegon said she was happy with his performance.

 

“I didn’t think about the world record; I don’t know how I made it,” said a delighted and surprised Kipyegon. “I just focused on the green light and tried to stay relaxed and enjoy the race. When I saw that it was a world record, I was so surprised. I just wanted to improve on my PB; the world record was not my plan. I just ran after Gidey; she is an amazing lady.” She said.

 

After the win, she received massive congratulations from all over the country, led by President William Ruto.
