AFC Leopards Stripes Off Two Players Of their Captain Roles

The AFC Leopards have announced today that Peter Thiong’o and Eugene Mukangula have been stripped of their captaincy roles.

The two are among the senior players who, according to the club, inspired other players to skip practice in order to protest delayed salary payments before their away league game against the bottom-placed Vihiga Bullets.

The Leopards unexpectedly lost the game 2-1. After Marvin Nabwire left the team to join Police FC in April 2022, Mukangula, 26 years old, was named the new club captain.

The AFC Leopards released a statement confirming the news:

“The AFC Leopards National Executive Committee has stripped Eugene Mukangula and Peter Thiong’o from their captaincy roles in the team with immediate effect.” Read the statement.

Leopards chairman Dan shikanda accused the two players of poor conduct

“The players staged a protest yet we had paid them 75 percent of their May salary and promised to clear the outstanding arrears on Tuesday, which we have since been settled as promised. Our sponsors, Betika, have been slow in paying the players on time since the league started in June last year.” He said.
