In a tense, hard-fought final, Sevilla defeated Roma 4-1 on penalties to win the Europa League for a record seventh time on Wednesday night in Budapest.

Going into the game, Jose Mourinho had not lost any European finals he had managed. Sevilla, however, are known for being very good at winning the Europa League.

Paulo Dybala gave Roma the lead in first half after a lovely set of play.Roma went into halftime leading the game.

However, in the second half, Sevilla drew level through an own goal by Gianluca Mancini ten minutes into the second half. None of the teams managed to get the winning goal as the game went into extra time.

In the extra time, both teams showed levels of fatigue, and the best chance for Sevilla fell to Suso, whose effort just went wide off the post. Chris Smalling hit the post in the last attack for Roma as the referee signaled penalty kicks.

For Sevilla, they converted all their penalty kicks through Ocampos, Lamela, Rakitic, and Montiel, who scored the winner.

For Roma, Mancini saw his effort saved by Bono while Christante’s effort bounced off the crossbar.
