Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania Officially Bid To Jointly Host AFCON 2027

Kenya alongside Uganda and Tanzania have officially bid to host the 2027 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

 

 

President William Ruto said the submission is part of the Government’s plan to harness skills and talents.

 

 

While addressing the nation at the state house Nairobi when he officially unveiled the East African Community ‘’Pamoja bid’’ for the AFCON 2027, Ruto said his Government was keen on undertaking strides that will make Kenya a sports powerhouse.

 

“We are focussed on harnessing the full potential of each sector for our prosperity.”

 

The head of state noted that the sector has a potential to stimulate economic growth by harnessing the youth potential

 

“This sector is a giant wellspring of opportunities. We will ensure we place Kenya on its rightful position as a sporting superpower.”

 

The measures the president is looking to put in place is infrastructure development, enhanced monetization of sporting talent and the reinstatement of Kenya’s football past glory.

 

“This will stimulate local sports, promote tourism, create employment and enhance our national sporting and athletic brand.”

 

Also present during the short briefing were Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba and Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, Federation of Kenya  Football Nick Mwendwa and FKF CEO Barry Otieno
