Man Allegedly Kills Wife Following Disagreement
Terror filled residents in Luweero District after a fight broke out between a married couple, resulting in one of them gruesomely murdered.
Christopher Makubuya and Joyce, both aged 55 were residents of Waleta, Makulubita Sub County and had been married for one year.
It is said that on the fateful day, the couple went to a local bar to have a good time and when they got drunk, they returned to their home where a disagreement ensued in the wee hours of the morning. By day break, Makubuya had reportedly killed his wife in cold blood.
Gertrude Nabaggala, daughter to the suspect, was one of the people to arrive at the scene after being alerted by her father. Upon arrival, she revealed that she witnessed a pool of blood and decided to alert the neighbors who responded immediately.
“When I opened the curtain to their house, I saw a lot of blood with the lady lying down. My father was also bleeding, I did not touch them and just ran out to call the neighbors,” she said.
Neighbors scouted the area but failed to locate both the attackers and the murder weapon (machete) that Makubuya said was used to butcher his wife.
“He said they used a panga but we couldn’t see it and the deceased did not have any wounds to show that she was butchered,” one of the fast responders stated.
When he was questioned about the identity of the attacker, Makubuya, who was bleeding from the head, failed to give a description, prompting residents to pin Joyce’s murder on him. In his defense, he denied the allegations of murdering his wife, stating that she was attacked by unknown assailants who also hit him on the head with a brick.
“My wife met her attackers on the doorway and screamed once. When I came, I saw her lying on the ground with a lot of blood oozing. When I tried to pick her up, some unknown person hit me on my head with either a brick or a big stick,” he said.
Savannah Region police spokesperson Twinamazima Sam tagged the murder on the increasing number of domestic violence cases in the area. Makubuya and his daughter Nabadda were taken to police to make statements that would help in the investigations.
