Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out to tell off critics who slammed him for speaking his local dialect in public forums.
While speaking today in Wanjohi ward, Nyandarua county where he joined local leaders in offering relief assistance to residents, the country’s second in command noted that a group of rich Nairobi people who does not know what suffering is have been criticizing him for using Kikuyu language.
The DP questioned whether he is a white man to use English language.
“They have been criticizing me for speaking Kikuyu language . They want me to speak in English, am I a white man?” he asked
He went ahead to note that the language is necessary to use when speaking to his local people.
“When I come to you people and avoid speaking Kikuyu, what else should I speak?”
He further declared that he is ready to lose his job to speak his language.
“If it comes to a point that if I speak Kikuyu I will lose this seat, it is okay so I can continue to speak my language”
Gachagua made the remarks when he made a whole Kikuyu speech in Nyandarua as he showed his pride in his local language.
“I will never be ashamed of being from this community because even after I finish my work I shall return here”he concluded.
