Man Kidnaps Student, Demands For 5M Ransom
Residents in Jinja continue to worry about the increasing number of kidnapping cases, especially amongst children.
This comes after police arrested Masaba Badiru who kidnapped a senior four student at Jinja Progressive Academy and asked her parents for a ransom of Ush5 million.
The victim, only identified as Tracy, a resident of Mpumudde, ambushed her on her way to school for her night preps.
While speaking to police, Tracy, a resident of Mpumudde revealed that she first met her kidnapper at 6PM while in the company of her friends. She revealed that the man who was dressed in a black coat chased them but singled her out.
The man allegedly captured and made her traverse through forests in villages while forcing her to call her people and demand for the ransom. He also issued a warning to her parents to send the money by morning or they would receive the naked pictures of her dead body lying in a sugarcane plantation.
The following morning, Tracy’s parents managed to raise Ush500,000 which they sent to the kidnapper and as he went to a mobile money agent to withdraw the money, she managed to escape.
The victim’s mother Nansamba Sarah revealed that they first treated the news of her daughter’s kidnap as a joke until it got so late and she had not returned home.
Mirenzo Shakira, the victim’s sister also noted that the kidnapper is a fellow resident and his arrest was after Police together with CMI decided to track him after the incident.
Masaba’s arrest was confirmed by James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson who revealed that he was captured in Nakabango while trying to steal charcoal. Tracy was called to the station to identify her kidnapper.
He is currently behind bars at Jinja Police as he awaits to be arraigned in court on charges of kidnap and theft.
