Soldier Arrested For Killing Lover And Attempting Suicide After The Crime
A soldier accused of killing his lover and shooting himself has been hunted down in Kayunga District and arraigned in court to answer for murder charges.
Pte Joel Ntege, 29, is a resident in Wantembo Barracks and was deployed under Fish Protection Unit at Butiaba landing site. It is said that he shot his lover Catherine Anderu to death and later shot himself but was luckily saved by colleagues who rushed him to the army hospital in Bombo.
After two days of treatment, Ntege escaped from the hospital and he has been on a run since then. He was arrested years later and brought before court.
The incident happened on September 19, 2018 and according to the government prosecutor Lt. Mukwana Alex, fresh investigations had been opened because the suspect escaped before making a statement.
Ntege before court denied the charges of murder and escaping from prison as read to him by the chairman of the UPDF General Court Martial, Brigadier General Freeman Robert Mugabe.
Ntege was remanded to Makindye Military prison until May 23, 2023.
