A senior Three student in Kamuli District, Eastern Uganda left people mesmerized after she was arrested for her involvement in a fake dollar deal.

 

The student whose identity was withheld is a student of Kamuli Community College Nawanyago and she is said to be part of the rapidly growing gang of scammers in Nawanyago and Buwagi.

 

According to police reports, the student scammed a Kampala tycoon of UGX 10 Million after convincing him into buying fake dollars and when he realized his money had been stolen, he rushed to police to file a case.

 

Busoga North Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the case and revealed that police have been working tirelessly to see that they hunt down these scammers who had made it a point to target rich people in the dollar scam.

 

He called out the local leaders for turning a deaf ear towards the victims who come to them and report these scammers.

 

Kasasha revealed that the scammers were also into a fake real estate business, selling farms and forests that belong to other people. As soon as the victim makes a full payment, another member of the gang comes up and claims ownership, making the buyer walk away empty handed.

 

Police recorded a similar case in the area recently where the gang conned a disabled man of UGX 12 million after they pretended to have sold a forest to him. He was arrested for trespassing and theft when he tried to cut down the trees.

 

The suspect is currently being detained at CPS Kamuli and police have opened an investigation to see that the other members of the group are arrested.
