A man was committed to High Court in connection to his step brother’s death following threats he made to him over the phone.

According to court documents, the accused Odongo Kassim, 28, borrowed a mobile phone from his brother Ogwang Bonny to make a call but instead mortgaged it in a bar. When Ogwang heard about what had happened, he went and settled the debt and collected back his phone.

When the accused saw the deceased with his phone, he reportedly started a quarrel, threatening to kill Ogwang. This turned into a huge fight with Odongo beating up Ogwang while pressing his neck. They were separated by their father.

On 28th October, 2022, Ogwang reported to the LC1 chairperson Opio Christopher about a threat on his life by his brother. He requested for a police letter, however he was found dead hanging on a rope in the house that very night. He had no shirt on and his legs were bent.

Police collected the body and took it for postmortem and the results indicated that the deceased had been strangled by hanging. Signs of violence were also reported on his body.

The evidence was presented before the Grade One Magistrate Kampire Sylvie who later committed Ogdongo’s case to the High Court.
