Waitress Cites Sexual Harassment Amidst Theft Allegations From Her Boss

A 19-year-old was arraigned before Grade one Magistrate court in Ibanda District to answer for the charges of theft slapped against her by her former boss.
Kyarikunda Rosette, a bar waitress is accused of stealing Ush 400,000 from her place of work and a fellow workmate’s personal belongings including a national ID, travel bag and some clothes.
Appearing before Grade One magistrate Murungi Esther, Kyarikunda in her defense accused her former boss Africa Bar, Karangara, Tumusiime Evaristo of coming up with the charges against her because she turned down his love advances.
According to Tumusiime, he hired the suspect on 28th January, only to steal from the business two days after she got the job. He was informed about kyarikunda’s disappearance on 30th January by Agumeneitwe Prossy, the bar manager.
“When I called her on the phone and asked where she was, she claimed that she had gone home and would return soon. When I talked about the theft, she denied it. So I reported the matter to the police at Mabonwa,” he revealed.
The items that were reported missing from Kyarikunda’s colleagues were recovered at her rental house in Katerera Town, Rubizi District upon her arrest. She was transported back to Ibanda to answer for her crimes.
According to Prossy, the suspect stole the items at 8:00 when she had stepped out for dinner on the 30th January.
“I found a big stone on the table near the drawer where the money was kept while the padlock was on the floor,” she narrated to the court.
Kyarikunda was remanded at Nyabuhikye after the court denied her testimony. She will return on 10th May.
