Fire Razes House Killing 7-Months-Old Baby, Injuring Another Sibling

Residents of Kikooza, Mukono District woke up to sad news of a fire that gutted a house, injuring siblings and killing one of them.

The deceased was identified as 7-months-old Nansubuga Bianca, daughter to Nalongo Margaret a fast food vendor and Rogers Kizito all residents in the same area.

According to one of the siblings Christopher Nsubuga, who was around when the fire started, stated that it was caused by a burning candle that fell on a mosquito net on one of the beds. When it spread, the seven year old ran to her mother’s work place to inform her and tell her the news.

“It first burned the wire on the flatiron. I rushed to call my mother at her work place. By the time we rushed back with her, the whole house was on fire,” Nsubuga said.

Three year old Aaliyah Nabulime tried to rescue her sister but in vain. She sustained terrible burns and she is currently receiving medical attention at Pentagon Medical Center.

The Uganda Police Fire Brigade from Mukono rushed to the scene to put out the fire but unfortunately the bars and shops near the house where the family was renting were all burned to the ground. Nansubuga’s remains were also collected from the house.

Residents blamed house owners who build, leaving small spaces for fire brigades to access areas of the homes in case of emergencies. Chairman Kikooza zone, Ssonko Kimboowa called out fellow local leaders to help mobilize their people to widen roads for easy access.
