Indian National Stabs Ugandan In The Neck Over Witchcraft Allegations
Police in Wandegeya are holding in custody an Indian national for stabbing a Ugandan man two times in the neck accusing him of witchcraft.
The accused identified as Patel Samir, a resident of Lugogo Bypass and head of HJ Oil Uganda Limited attacked Micheal Ssebowa for allegedly bewitching him. It is said that the pair had been at loggerheads for quite some time but the genesis of the attack was when Patel allegedly experienced severe itching on his body and concluded that Ssebowa was responsible.
The 40-year-old Patel decided to storm the victim’s workplace at Bwaise-Kikoni Total Petrol Station and stabbed him with a pocket knife.
“He used to work in the area but shifted to Kavule. So when he came around, he just entered the office and the next thing we saw was Ssebowa being taken on a boda boda with injuries in the neck,” an eyewitness narrated.
Amidst the chaos, Ssebowa who was badly injured was rushed to Hamaar Medical Services in Makerere-Kavule for first aid before being transferred to IHK Hospital Namuwongo.
The locals blamed the government for failing to control and hold foreigners accountable for ill-treating Ugandans in their own country.
“It is not fair for a foreigner to mistreat a Ugandan in his own country. Police have also not been of help because what he did was terrible,” an angry resident said.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the tragedy and advised people to always involve police in their conflicts and avoid taking matters into their own hands.
“Investigations are still ongoing and Patel is being held at Wandegeya Police Station as we dig deeper into the matter. I condemn the act and advise people to always seek counsel from leaders instead of violence,” Luke said.
