Man Arrested For Torturing Mentally Ill Uncle
Police have arrested and charged a man for allegedly torturing his uncle who is reported to be mentally unstable.
The suspect Mwesigwa Mustafa, a resident of Kinjura North Central Division, Masindi Municipality in Masindi District is said to have tortured his uncle identified as 52-year-old Conrad Asingwire who is known to his family as mentally unstable.
His arrest came after disturbing images spread on social media showing Asingwire being stripped naked, handled in an aggressive way and being dragged on tarmac.
According to Enanga Fred, Uganda Police spokesperson, this particular incident is said to have happened on 2nd April, 2023 at the suspect’s home.
In his defense, the suspect humiliated the victim, stripped him naked and made him move naked in public over allegations that he stole Ush600,000 from him, something which was not confirmed. Following the viral disturbing images, Mwesigwa was tracked down and finally apprehended.
“We put a lot of resources in tracking him. We arrested him in Kampala and even recorded his admission at CID headquarters in Kibuli,” Enanga said.
Enanga confirmed that Mwesigye was later transferred to Masinsi where he was to be charged with aggravated torture in court. He further condemned all forms of torture and vowed to ensure that all culprits are arrested and charged.
