Panga Wielding Gang Arrested Ready To Terrorize Residents
Uganda Police yesterday arrested a gang of armed thugs in Gayaza Trading Center, Gavaza Ward, Kasangati Town Council in Wakiso District that were allegedly planning to attack and terrorize residents in a different area.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owovesigyire in a police statement revealed that they received information and together with a team of officers conducted surveillance in the area.
During the operation at 11:30 PM, five suspects were arrested and identified as Ivan Mania, 31, Charles Kawoya, 17, Akiram Sekubuge, 23, Mwesigwa Enock, 32 and Denis Sagara, 27. Two suspects including Nekesa Racheal, 29, wife to the suspected commander, Mwesige Richard are still on the run.
Police also recovered two motorcycles registration numbers UEF 094E Yamaha and UK 221S Bajaj Boxer) eight sharpened pangas, six pit axes and box of nails.
According to police, the thugs had planned to attack and terrorize people in areas of Namugongo but they were arrested before they could make the move.
“Further investigations are ongoing, including a search of the suspects homes and efforts to trace those at large. The police urge the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” Luke said.
