Mob Beat Man To Death For Allegedly Stealing A Hen
Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances under which a 20-year old was lynched by the mob and his body dumped by the road side.
The deceased identified as Orikiriza Derrick, a resident of Buhamba was allegedly found with a stolen hen that belonged to a fellow resident only identified as Joy.
When Joy confronted him over the alleged theft at around 10:30 AM, residents pounced on him, beat him until he died. The body was then abandoned on the road leading to Kitariho Health Center III only covered with the blanket that was brought by his parents.
Police visited the crime scene as part of investigations and transported the body of the deceased to Kanungu Health Center IV for postmortem before handing it over to the relatives for a proper burial.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the case and revealed that a total of four people had been arrested in connection to the murder. They are being charged for murder by the mob and their case has been filed under CRB 261/2023 as the police continue with further investigations.
