In-laws of one Nigerian man have rejected the casket he brought to bury his mother-in-law  claiming it’s not beautiful and less expensive.

One social media user Ben Raphael Aondongu has posted on Facebook what befell the peasant man from Wannue Tarkaa married to a Tiv woman.

In the early hours of today, an undisclosed family rejected a casket brought by son in-law for the burial of mother in-law.

As the TIV tradition demands, when a mother or a father dies, the first female child who is married is saddled with the responsibility to make provision for a casket for the burial of any of the deceased parents” reads part of Aondongu’s post.

Aondongu adds that the Tiv In- laws to the undisclosed victim in Tombo Mbatie, Buruku BENUE state, expected a decent casket from their brother- in- law but he brought in an “ugly” casket.

For the maintenance of tradition, the first female child in conjunction with her husband who is a son in-law to the deceased mother, tried as he could to bring this casket but rejected.

According to the family of the deceased, Aondongu reports that the family of the victim claimed the casket ain’t beautiful and too undesirable to bury a member of their family.

Tiv cultures since advent, not only requires a brother -in- law married to an elder daughter of the family to buy a casket to either deceased mother-in-law or father-in-law but also entitled to bring cash and prepare food for mourners.

The post has brought out controversial comments from social media users as some mock the peasant man married to a Tiv woman.

Luper Simon; The son in-law deserved twelve stroke of the canes before throwing the coffin away. If he wasn’t capable of bringing a nice coffin, he would have informed the family ahead of time so that the family would look for another option, but assuring the family but later bringing this kind coffin for the burial of your mother- in-law is quite unacceptable.

Mar Dan; This casket is still annoying me anytime I set my eyes on this post. If na for my family, nothing go stop me for giving you a slap for this kind of insult. What’s bad for telling the family of the deceased you can’t afford to bring caskets than humiliating them to this extend. God go punish that in-law ahswear.

Candy Brown; Am a Tiv Person but I don’t support this kind of foolishness. How do you expect the coffin to look. What is so special about a coffin that is going to 6 feet under? Thats why I prefer muslims way of burying the dead. This casket is far better than what president Yaradua was buried in.

Fasco Japheto; Nice or good looking coffin either bad one cannot value to deceased. Why can’t them use their money and do the latest one. I hate rubbish.

Vee Mhembaga; This is a disgrace to the wife and family. What is this? If you can’t afford a casket kindly tell ur in-laws and they will make another arrangement for another one. Which kind of humiliation is this isshhhhh, even if we are not in good terms please don’t bring this shame to my family.

Dominic Aondona; It’s obviously that the in-law was not financially stable, everybody wants good name you can’t even blame the man due to hardship and other circumstances surrounding.
