IG Koome: One Officer Died, 20 Injured During Yesterday’s Protest

One police officer died due to injuries sustained during Kisumu protest as other 20 nurse serious injuries from violent protests across the country.
This is according to a statement issued by the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.
The injuries and death resulted from a clash between demonstrators and the police.
The IG further said that property damage and massive theft was also experienced in the country’s capital as well as other parts of the country, adding that investigation is ongoing and anyone found culpable will carry their own cross.
“Property whose value is yet to be determined was destroyed as hooligans masquerading as protestors invaded private property. Investigations into incidents of robbery that have been reported are underway and those culpable will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Koome said.
Koome has warned Kenyans that their right to picket does not give room for looting and attack to law enforcers.
He went ahead to laud officers for continued commitment, professionalism and resilience in containing chaos as they abide by the law as he
assured members of the public of their security and safety and said they remain focused on executing their mandate to serve and protect.
