Hot Air, DCI Presented “Fake” photos
The DCI yesterday had its Twitter page flooded with comments after announcing list of wanted “criminals” from Azimio’s Monday anti-government protest.
The Criminal Investigator presented several pictures summoning individuals pictured to appear at the DCI headquarters or nearby police stations accusing them of throwing different items at police officers, attacking innocent citizens and destroying property.
They further accused the protesters of harming a number of officer and reported loss of one firearm.
“A firearm whose magazine was loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm calibre was also lost by one of their officers, after he was attacked by a gang of a well coordinated riotous mob, as the officers prevented destruction of public property in Embakasi area of Nairobi County.”
The individuals pictured were therefore set to face charges ranging from robbery with violence, malicious damage to public property and assault among other allied offenses.
However, it has emerged that some pictures presented were taken few years back while others are from other countries.
For example the picture below was first used first published in 2015 ruling out the possibility of it being one derived from the Monday protest.
Whether or not the individual is Kenyan and was in the country during the protest remain a puzzle.
The picture below on the other hand was taken during Burundi protest when individuals never wanted their then President to run for presidency.
With those as just few cases, questions on authenticity of information relayed by the investigative body remains an issue of concern.
