The Kenya University Student Organization(KUSO)  have called for demonstrations every Friday to protest over delayed disbursement of HELB loans.

The student leaders who confirmed that the funds are yet to hit their accounts, lament over the hardships the delay has subjected comrades into.

“Students no longer eat chicken but eat like and with chicken,” KUSO President Antony Manyara said.

They also admitted to having several consultative meetings with relevant authorities but note that disbursement of the student loan was proving to be an issue as authorities shifted blame from office to office as the students on the other hand continue to feel the heat of the delay.

“A final reminder be issued to HELB officers and concerned government Ministries that the HELB loan is the lifeline of students’ survival in all institutions of higher learning and its delay is akin to closing down universities or starving students with the intention of killing them,”

After a meeting, the body therefore resolved to getting to the streets to pressure the relevant bodies to act as they urge students and parents to cooperate.

“We are left with no other option except to invoke the ruthless comrades’ power,” he said.

This  comes after President William Ruto while speaking at Kisii National Polytechnic assured students that the Higher Education Loans Board was already given the funds.

“We have allocated enough money in the budget in the last two weeks. You now have money for HELB so that you can continue with your education without difficulties,” Ruto said.
