Elderly Couple Dies Hours Apart After 56 Years Of Marriage
The body of the late Namazzi Mary Kasule in church for a requiem mass moments before her husband, John Kasule was pronounced dead.
Residents of Masajja, Makindye Ssabagabo Wakiso District are mourning the sudden death of an elderly couple who passed on just hours apart ahead of their 60th wedding anniversary.
The deceased were identified as 74 year old Namazzi Mary and John Kasule, 86, who had been married for 56 years. It is reported that Namazzi died first on Wednesday after complaining of being unwell and just as they were headed for her requiem mass, her husband was also pronounced dead on a Thursday morning at their home where he had been bed ridden due to a battle with throat cancer.
The late couple’s son, John Ssenfuka revealed to the mourners that his parents’ death fulfilled the promises they made in their marriage vows.
“Our mother died right before our eyes and she was completely aware of what was happening around her and she was even speaking.” He said.
Namazzi’s requiem mass that was already happening at St. Pius Catholic Parish was postponed and mourners rushed home to prepare her husband’s dead body for a joint service the next day.
The deceased couple is praised for not only their strong faith in Christ but also their great support towards the church and its activities.
“We have lost this couple and for the 56 years they have been married, they have shown a good example of what it means to be married.” Rev. Fr. Kikomeko Francis revealed.
The deceased couple met in March 1966, fell in love and got married after five months. They were laid to rest in Gombe Wobulenzi, Luwero District on Friday.
