Sack Throws, New Tactic Used By Robbers On Highways
Kampala Metropolitan Police together with Naalya Division are investigating a sudden incident where a criminal gang attacked a motorist on the northern by-pass.
The victim Muzammil Muhammad, was driving under the Kiwatule overhead bridge when unknown people threw a sack on his car. It is reported that these criminals who are targeting motorists, throw sacks on cars as a distraction, forcing the drivers to stop by the roadside on the highway to check on the motor vehicles. Amidst this confusion, the criminals use this chance to attack and rob the victims.
The criminal gangs use other dangerous items like large sticky substances, rocks, dirty water and sharp instruments which they throw on car windscreens for drivers to lose focus or jam vehicles.
Fortunately, Muzammil was able to fight off the gang and quickly alerted the police. He also shared his ordeal with the public for better vigilance on the road.
Fred Enanga the police spokesperson has cautioned all motorists to be well equipped with defensive or evasive driving techniques when in the face of such danger.
“These include; car cornering and other precise maneuvers, outpacing an attacker, reversing at terrible speed, driving through obstacles where possible or even hooting for serious help.” Enanga said.
Meanwhile police intelligence, operational and IT teams continue to check the CCTV footage around the area of the attack to help identify the criminals who attacked Muzammil and bring them to book.
