Dr. Fred Matiang’i Finally Free
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has been released after hours of grilling at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters
His release comes just a few minutes after Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga arrived at the DCI offices to secure his brief detention.
Odinga, who was denied access at the gate of investigative agency, arrived accompanied by the elected leaders.
His Lawyer Otiende Amollo while addressing the press said the detention of Matiang’i for nine hours was unlawful and accused the DCI of being used to fight political battles.
“It is clear that this was not a criminal investigation. This was a vendetta and witch hunt. It is also clear that the DCI was not acting of their own motion, but were awaiting instructions on what to do with Dr Matiang’i,” said Otiende Amollo.
Otiende warns Interior CS Kithure Kindiki against his bosses whom he accused of undermining the office of the Interior Ministry.
“When the government thinks it is mistreating Dr Matiang’i as a person, you are lowering the standing of the office he held and the standing of our country even before foreigners. You are demonstrating to everyone that we are not a stable democracy and are headed towards a banana republic and that will come to bite the very people doing that to our client,” he stated.
Matiang’i has been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information on an alleged police raid.
