More Than Half Of World Population Will Be Obese, Study Shows
Low income and middle income countries in Africa and Asia are now at risk of reporting high percentage of persons suffering from either overweight or obese by 2035.
Study shows more than half a million of people in the world will be either overweight or obese by 2035 and now, this calls upon policy makers and health scientists to take early precautionary measures.
Louise Baur, World Obesity Federation say, the world is now at risk because of the high rise of obese and overweight persons and this demands state policy makers to take early measures as reported by one international media house.
“It is particularly worrying to see obesity rates rising fastest among children and adolescents,” she said in a statement.
“Governments and policymakers around the world need to do all they can to avoid passing health, social and economic costs on to the younger generation” she added.
According to Baur, if measures are not taken as early as now, obesity persons may be more than double from 2020 levels to 208 million boys and 175 million girls by 2035.
World Health Organization (WHO) reports that persons with Body Mass Index (BMI) over 25 are overweight and those with BMI over 30 are obese.
To calculate either obese or overweight, WHO takes the whole Body Mass Index of a person divided by his/her weight in kilograms and multiplied by his/her height in meters square.
And due to the critical concern, Baur, World Obesity Federation president has presented a concern paper to world policy makers to urgently find ways to curb overweight and obesity in both low income states and middle in come.
