Sunny Dry Spell Not Ending Yet, Weatherman Tells Kenyans

Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry in the seven-day weather forecast valid from 7-13 February 2023. The weather update has been published by the Kenya Meteorological Department on Tuesday 7th February 2023.

 

Maximum daily temperatures are likely to be high in some parts of northwestern and north-eastern Kenya surpassing 30 degree Celsius.

 

Average night-­‐time (minimum) temperatures are likely to be moderate (10oC to 20oC) over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-­‐ eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley.

 

The Weather Review for 30 Jan to 5 Feb 2023 showed that Sunny and dry conditions prevailed over most parts of the country and the situation is expected to be sustained further. During this period, both day-time (maximum) temperatures and night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over most parts of the country.

 

 

Lodwar Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature: 38.5o C on 1 February 2023 while Nyahururu Meteorological Station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature: 2.9o C on the same day.

 

 

The same stations recorded the highest seven-­‐day average maximum temperature and the lowest seven-­‐day average minimum temperature: 38.0o C and 4.9o C respectively

 

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the South Rift Valley (Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori and Narok Counties)

 

Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur over few places. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 27o C and 34o C. Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 06o C to 23o C.

 

The North and Central Rift Valley (Trans-­‐Nzoia, Uasin-­‐Gishu, Elgeyo-­‐Marakwet, West-­‐Pokot, Baringo and Nakuru Counties): Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 26o C and 31o C. Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 07o C to 12o C.

 

North-­‐western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties): Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 28o C and 39o C. Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 10o C to 26o C.

 

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-­‐Nithi and Nairobi Counties): Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional afternoon showers may occur over few places. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 23o C and 32o C. Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 03o C to 19o C.

 

North-­‐eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties): Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 32o C and 38o C.

 

Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 17o C to 26o C.

 

The South-­‐eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-­‐Taveta Counties): Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 27o C and 37o C. Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 11o C to 22o C.

 

The Coast (Mombasa, Tana-­‐River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties): Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. Maximum (day-­‐time) temperatures are likely to be between 31o C and 34o C. Minimum (night-­‐time) temperatures are expected to range from 23o C to 26o C.
