Riggy G Condemns Uhuru
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has scoffed off at retired President Uhuru Kenyatta for meddling with the Kenya Kwanza administration saying he wasted his two terms playing dirty politics.
Mr Gachagua said the former President squandered the country’s coffers leaving the economy at a standstill.
Speaking in Mombasa at the Yara Fertiliser Warehouse Mombasa, Mr Gachagua said Mr Kenyatta who sabotaged farmers in the fertilizer subsidy program should be blamed for the high cost of maize flour.
He said Mr Kenyatta punished farmers from maize-growing areas through the subsidized fertilizer program.
“They stopped fertilizer subsidies, to punish William Ruto because he comes from a maize production county. But they ended up hurting and punishing all farmers thus the production came down from 30 bags to 10 bags,” said Mr Gachagua.
He said the previous regime undermined food security for parochial politics.
“They have no business telling the Kenya Kwanza administration how to work. But we are working day and night, making interventions to bring the cost of food down but their critics are trying to introduce politics and trying to tell them how they should work,” said the DP.
On Wednesday Mr Kenyatta urged the Kenya Kwanza administration to stop talking too much and focus on service delivery.
But the DP said Mr Kenyatta should stop playing politics.
The DP further assured Kenyans that the Ruto will increase and lower the cost of maize flour and improve the economy.
The DP said Kenya has a deficit of 10 million bags of maize. However, he urged farmers from the maize-growing counties to increase their production to boost food production. The government has ordered 6 million bags of fertilisers to boost food production. The fertilizers will be ferried to farmers before March 15 ahead of planting season. The farm input will be sold to farmers at Sh3500.
“With the strategies we are implementing, farmers will increase production so that we have sufficient food and surplus. We are not sleeping, we are working and we are working on practical programs and interventions. The people saying that we are just talking should come and witness work,” he said.
