Meet Tongaren ‘Jesus’ who Turns Water Into Tea!

In Tongaren constituency, Bungoma County, a man claiming to be Jesus has hit the headline for the past few days. The man who has gathered many followers and has had many believe in him, recently claimed to have turned water into tea.
Yesu Wa Tongaren, as he is famously known, does not have a national ID and says he forgot his real name following a voice to him by the spirit of ‘God’ between 2008-2009 although his neighbours call him Eliud Wekesa.
‘2008-2009 sauti ikasema hivi; mwanangu,utukuzwe duniani kwa miaka 77, sahau hiyo jina,’ the voice said to him.
In His Church
There is a small room faithfuls enter to cleanse themselves before entering the main church.
At the church, faithfuls remove shoes at the door as he says they are in a holy place.
At the Pulpit, he is surrounded with 12 disciples; 6 males on his right hand side and 6 females on his left who fast for days before receiving a teaching and training from him in church.
No food is allowed on the altar
After service, he takes his faithfuls round the church 7times dancing and singing.
No plaiting of hair, no wearing makeup, faithfuls don’t eat pork or rabbit meat, faithfuls don’t wear wedding rings
Those who believe in him
They believe Yesu Wa Tongaren performs miracles like healing the sick with the latest he performed being turning water into tea
Wife on facing rejection
His wife Nabii Benjamin Muoki claims they have been rejected by their immediate family members following their stand but says that will never stop them from spreading the gospel
‘Nabii haeshimiwi kwao. Nilikaa na baba yangu mzazi nikamwarifu kuwa jua kwamba kijana yako yeye ni yesu. Akanijibu wewe ni mwendawazimu,’ she says.
Remember, the Western region has so far produced three people who some residents have followed and worshipped. They have had, Jehovah Wanyonyi, Prophet John the 5th and now Yesu Wa Tongaren
Members of the public have had a mixed reaction on the claims that Yesu Wa Tongaren turned water into tea:
‘Atugeuzie makaratasi iwe pesa turudishe watoto shule,’ Shiko Lydia Steve said.
‘Jehovah Wanyonyi went to heaven to be with himself now once again Bungoma has produced the son,’ Francis Baraza noted.
