Body Of Missing Nyeri Teacher Found Nailed Inside a Coffin

It was a shocking scene for residents of Ihururu village in Nyeri County who found the body of Mr. Joseph Gathogo, a teacher who has been missing for three weeks, nailed in a coffin inside his rental house.

Mr. Gathogo, a computer teacher at Muhoya Secondary school was reported to be missing on December 22 ,2022, a day he’s said to have supervised KCSE exams and asked by administration to ensure smooth running of such exams.

Unfortunately, he never came out from his house since this day, only to be reported missing on January 7,2022 when family members came looking for him.

According to Muhoya Assistant Chief, the family filed his missing case with the police.

The caretaker of the apartment where the deceased lived for 14 years Mr. William Gitau, claims the teacher was last seen on December, 19 but never found it strange as the deceased who loved playing loud music, hardly left his house or engaged in conversations with people.

‘ You could only find him outside whenever he was going to the shop and he hardly  received guests or engaged in conversations with people,’ he said.

Yesterday however, the caretaker realized a foul smell from the teacher’s house as he was cleaning the compound. Both main and back doors were locked forcing the police to break into his house only to find his naked body nailed inside a coffin in his sitting room.

Besides the coffin were: drugs suspected to be poison, flowers, black flag, a cow horn and letter written in a foreign language.

Nyeri County Commander Steve Oloo says the deceased must have died of suicide  although they have launched investigations to establish the cause of his death.

The body has been moved to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
