Fred Machoka Shares Reason Kanda Bongo Man was Deported from Kenya in 1990s

Fred Obachi Machoka shared why President Moi's regime deported King Kwasa Kwasa - Kanda Bongo Man from Kenya in 1991.

Kanda Bongo Man was allegedly deported from Kenya for having an affair with President Moi's girlfriend/ courtesy.


Veteran radio host Fred Obachi Machoka shared why President Moi’s regime deported King Kwasa Kwasa – Kanda Bongo Man from Kenya in 1991.

In an exclusive talk with Patrick Igunza on Hot96,  Fred Machoka said Kanda Bongo Man was deported for allegedly having an affair with President Moi’s girlfriend.

Machoka said he received a call from the State House directing him to tell Kanda Bongo Man to leave Kenya.

So nikaingia kwa room nikapata Kanda Bongo Man amevaa vizuri ready to come down and perform, and he was in very good mood. I told him, ‘Kanda, kumeharibika,” Machoka shared.

However the reason for the deportation from the State House was not given at that time, Machoka said the deportation information left Bongo Man confused.

The veteran journalist said since the singer was forced to leave with immediate effect, he drove him to JKIA. At the Airport, Machoka said he secretly asked the police why the singer was being deported and was told, had a secret affair with President Moi’s girlfriend, the late KBC anchor Catherine Kasavuli.

Wakaniambia kuna msichana ambaye alikuwa girlfriend wa Moi na Kanda Bongo Man akapita naye. Msichana gani, ‘eti Catherine Kasavuli’…” He added.

According to Machoka, Catherine Kasavuli was an innocent screen lady and while at the airport watching the TV, they saw Catherine presenting news Machoka asked the singer if he knew her.

“I asked Kanda, ‘Do you see that woman on TV?’ He replied, ‘TV girl, very beautiful.’ I then asked if he knew her, and he said he didn’t have an idea who she was.” Machoka revealed.

Later after the singer had left, Machoka discovered the singer had been approached by Hezekiah Oyugi, President Moi’s Permanent Secretary of Interior Security to perform at his daughter’s wedding and he refused.

Bongo Man said he doesn’t perform at private events. According to Machoka, that made the singer deported from Kenya.
