78 -years-old Museveni Will Run For Presidency in 2026, Says Vice President

Uganda vice president Jessica Alupo has confirmed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will contest for the seat in the 2026 polls.
According to a Ugandan National Paper, The Observer, Ms Alupo, made the Remarks during the celebrations to mark three and a half decades of the Entebbe Church of Uganda Archdeaconry.
She urged Ugandans to support the President in his bid to eradicate poverty.
“From your faces and body language I can see you are ready to give him more time in State House…Pulezidenti Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ajja kuba naffe mu 2026 mu kulonda era wakubawo nga okulonda kuwedde! Nsaba mu muwagile nga mwebadde mukola bulijjo [President Museveni will still be with us in 2026 and he will contest and be there after the elections. Please, support him like you have always done.]”
Alupo’s pronouncements could see a father and son contest, as Museveni’s Eldest and controversial son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has also declared his interest in vying for the seat in 2026.
In a series of tweets in his official twitter account, General Muhoozi, said he would contest the presidency as a gift to his mother.
“The only way I can repay my great mother is by being President of Uganda! And I shall definitely do it!!” He tweeted.
Also endorsing Museveni’s sixth term in office is Buganda region youth leaders who said the 78-years–old president is there sole candidate for the 2026 general election.
The law allows President Museveni, who has ruled the country for three and a half decades, to contest following the removal of the term and age limits.
Should he make it to the ballot, Museveni will be the longest serving President in East Africa, and the third in Africa after Cameroon’s Paul Biya and Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Mbasogo.
