Former Kariobangi Sharks and Harambee Stars Midfielder Sven Yidah misses out millions of money after he failed to trademark his iconic celebration. The Midfield maestro who plays for South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side Marumo Gallants FC after joining on a free transfer from Nairobi City Stars in 2021.
Sven Yidah pulled out one of the unique and iconic celebration which has become a global sensation. Yidah first did the ‘faking it injury celebration’ during Kenya Super cup Semi-Finals match in 2019 against Tanzania side Mbao FC before repeating the celebration in a friendly match organized by Sportpesa against English Premier League side Everton FC where Yidah pulled the iconic celebration during penalty shootout which went viral.
When Sven Yidah celebrated his penalty, he did not envision that his celebration would end up becoming a world’s sensation. This celebration was added into the popular video game FC 24 formerly FIFA game series after several players started using it in their celebrations.

The recent player to use the Yidah’s celebration is former Arsenal captain and Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka. He used it to celebrate his first ever goal for Bayer Leverkusen, where they went 8 points clear on top of Bundesliga table and still unbeaten. The other high-profile player who have used the iconic celebration is former Chelsea man and Real Madrid Centre-Back Antonio Rudiger and general gamers often use it in the FC 24 video game.

According to Yidah’s brother Ronny Lusigi, who is also the president of the Esports Kenya Federation, Yidah did not receive any compensation for his celebration inclusion into the world’s leading football video game. Ronny Lusigi revealed that payment in video games normally happens when someone’s image or likeness is used for a character in the video game.
However, if Yidah had trademarked that celebration, he would have earned millions of money for that, just like other players like former Tottenham and Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale who trademarked his iconic celebration which earned him millions of money in return.
In 2013, it was reported that the Wales legend successfully trademarked his celebration the “Eleven Of Hearts” a move that earns him more than £10million approximately Ksh 1.8 billion a year. Had the Kenyan midfielder Sven Yidah did like Bale, he would have earned millions of money from FC 24 video game.
