Former Yanga Striker Fiston Mayele Claims He is Tired of ‘Kutumiwa Majini’ By Yanga Leaders
Fiston Mayele, a Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) national played at Young Africans (Yanga SC) side in Tanzania Premier League commonly known as NBC Premier League for sponsorship reasons. Mayele joined Yanga SC in 2021 from DR Congo side AS Vita where he spent two seasons the with Tanzanian giants.
The Congolese sharpshooter took part in the just concluded 2023 AFCON tournament with DR Congo national team commonly known as The Leopards in Ivory Coast. Mayele helped DR Congo reach the AFCON Semi-Finals, but they lost the semifinal match to the hosts Cote D’Ivoire forcing them to play in the Playoffs where they faced Bafana Bafana of South Africa who lost their Semi-Final match against Nigeria.
After a goalless draw, DR Congo headed to penalty shootouts where they lost 5-4 to South Africa finishing as the Fourth best team in the tournament where the hosts Ivory Coast were crowned champions after beating Nigeria 2-1 in the Finals.
Fiston Mayele Controversies began when DR Congo played Tanzania in AFCON Group F fixture where it ended in a goalless draw. In the match, the former Yanga SC forward was ‘pocketed’ by Taifa Stars defenders and was substituted in the 68th minute. After the match, Mayele took to his social media platforms claiming Tanzania played with 5 defenders being the reason he couldn’t not score, a statement that angered many Tanzanians online who trolled him mercilessly.
After DR Congo lost to South Africa in the AFCON playoff match through penalties, Yanga SC fans flocked his social media platforms trolling him for failing to help his national team win a bronze medal. Mayele left the club last year in July to join Egyptian side Pyramids FC after spending two seasons at Yanga SC, a decision that did not sit well with most of Yanga fans leading to a bitter blood against the player.
Mayele went to his Instagram page and posted “Chuki ya nini mimi sio mtanzania bhona nilikosea kucheza timu za Tanzania ni nini 🤦♂️” loosely translated ‘Why the hate and am not a Tanzanian or it was a mistake to play for a Tanzanian club’. The embattled Yanga SC spokesperson Haji Manara asked him to pull down the post where Mayele responded saying he has been receiving threat messages from some Yanga SC leaders adding that he is tired of battling ‘majini’ sent by his former club leaders. The star has been struggling with his form in his new club since he joined.
