Ivy Wangeci's Killer Naftali Kinuthia Jailed for 40 Years

Naftali Kinuthia, the prime suspect in the murder of Ivy Wangechi outside Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in 2019, has been handed a 40-year prison sentence.

 

The sentencing took place on Thursday at the Eldoret High Court, marking the end of the four-year-old murder trial.

 

Justice Stephen Githinji, acknowledged Kinuthia’s remorse but emphasized that the severity of the crime is what led to the sentence handed to him.

 

Kinuthia, represented by his legal counsel, expressed regret for his actions claiming personal transformation during his four-year remand.

Throughout the trial, Kinuthia argued that despite his financial support to Wangechi, she rejected him based on his height, publicly embraced another man and allegedly exploited him for financial gains.

 

Kinuthia maintained that even after their relationship turned sour, he continued to financially support Wangechi, spending over Ksh. 100,000 on her.

 

Kinuthia further disclosed that just before the fatal attack, he had sent Wangechi Ksh 7,000 for her birthday, expressing disappointment at not receiving an invitation to the celebration.

 

He asserted that he had been a consistent financial contributor to her events throughout their relationship.

During the trial, Kinuthia said that he sought to reclaim his money from her parents after realizing their romantic ties were unraveling.
