Sugar Factory Worker Crushed To Death

Fear gripped residents of Ndibulunji Village in Butuntumula Sub-county, in Luweero District after a casula worker at Victoria Sugar Factory was crushed to death.

 

The deceased identified as 25-year- old Rwothomiyo Isaac was killed at around 9 AM as confirmed by Mr. Twineamazima Sam, the Savanna Regional Police spokesperson.

According to the police investigations, a heap of waste material from sugarcane used to heat boilers, also know as bagasse, unfortunately fell on the Isaac. He after slipped and fell into the machines that crushed him to death.

 

The HR of the factory contacted Detectives from Luweero Central police station who rushed to the scene and condoned off the area. They collected Isaac’s remains and took them to Mulago hospital mortuary for postmortem.

“The machines were being operated without safety measures, which put the workers at risk of death in case of contact. Investigation into the case of rash and neglect that caused the death of a worker is ongoing. We have recorded statements from workers to help in the investigations,” Twineamazima stated.

 

After the incident, operations at the factory have been suspended until further notice.
