Locals in the cassava plantation where the deceased’s body was found

Police in Busia are investigating circumstances under which a missing man was discovered dead in a garden.

 

Munoko James, a resident of Nabahansi Village, Buwembo Sub County had been reported missing for two weeks but locals were shocked when his dead body was seen dumped in a cassava plantation.

 

It is said that the deceased left home on Independence Day (9th October, 2023) and according to his brother Wambani Joseph they did not bother looking for him because they thought he was out drinking with his friends as was the norm.

“He went down the stream to bathe and the child came back to us saying he did not come back. We searched and did not find him,” Mary Wandera, the sister to the deceased, revealed.

 

When he did not come back after weeks, they filed a missing persons’ case under case number 03/16/10/2023 at Buyanga Police post.

 

The family is said to have visited a traditional doctor who advised them to search in the gardens or swamps for his dead body.

 

The discovery of his dead body was after they had a strong stench coming from the garden.

“It is today that the stench became unbearable and we came around and we discovered his decaying body in the plantation,” Joseph Elima, chairperson LCIII Buyanga said.

 

Police confirmed the news and revealed that investigations to determine the cause of death are underway.

 

“The CID are collecting statements and investigating the matter. We are investigating the circumstances under which he died,” Jackson Kiwanuka, OC Buyanga police post said.
