Woman Beheads In-Law’s Daughter
Fear gripped residents of Kitungwa village, Gombe Sub-county in Nansana Municipality after a woman murdered her in-law’s daughter in cold blood and started bragging about it.
The deceased was identified as Nakato Luyiga, a five-year-old Top-Class pupil at Genesis Kindergarten School and according to police reports, Namuleme Maureen, 40, her uncle’s wife and also mother of five cut off her head and locked her dead body in the house.
It is alleged that the deceased’s mother attended a wedding, leaving the toddler under Namuleme’s care. At around 3PM, the suspect called the toddler who was out playing with her friends and locked her in the house where she performed the gruesome act while carrying her own child on her back.
The locals were alerted about the murder by the loud screams from one of her sons who walked into the murder scene and Nakato’s dead body in a pool of blood.
“I was told about my granddaughter’s murder through a phone call while I was at work. I was so surprised when I learnt that her uncle’s wife killed her. With a lot of anger, I ran to the house with the aim of killing her but she had been taken by the police,” James Luboowa, grandfather to the deceased, revealed.
According to the village chairperson, Teo Nakimbugwe, Namuleme is believed to be mentally unstable.
“She has been mentally unstable for quite some time so I believe it was the mental illness that drove her to such an inhumane act,” she said.
Nakato’s father Ssekiranda Steven is a brother to Namuleme’s husband; something that left the relatives and neighbors wondering what would have pushed Namuleme to carry out the murder, leaving all her biological children unharmed.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson Luke Owesigyire confirmed the murder, revealing that further investigations are underway to bring justice to the grieving family.
“We have managed to get statements from eyewitnesses in the area and managed to take the dead body to the mortuary. We have to rule out mental illness before she stands trial,” he said through a phone call.
