Kakamega Homeboyz Wins The Mozzart Cup After Defeating Tusker FC
Kakamega Homeboyz defeated Tusker FC 1-0 to win the Mozzart Cup at Kasarani Stadium during the weekend.
Tusker lost despite having possession of the ball for a long time in the 73rd minute, when Kelvin Amwayi scored the only goal of the game.
Matano responded to the goal by making a double substitution, bringing on Micahel Oduor and Saphan Siwa in the place of Eric Mmata and Stewart Omondi in the 82nd minute, before Homeboyz’s change that saw Brian Bulleti replace Amwayi but Homeboyz managed to hold on to the win.
Speaking after the defeat, Tusker FC coach Robert Matano insisted his side could have done better.
“We had the plan to block and defend the game throughout, but our fullback switched off and gave space. We beat ourselves.”
“It’s sad. Very sad,” Matano added. “We have to go back and then reflect—at least get some character. Players who can play a game of such magnitude and sustain pressure” He said.
Tusker have had a rough few weeks after losing the league to Gor Mahia with a few games to go and having blown their chances of winning silverware.
