President Ruto Signs Finance Bill Into Law

President William Ruto has assented to the controversial Finance Bill 2023, which was passed by the National Assembly last week making it a law. 

The president  who signed the Bill today Monday June 26, at State House, Nairobi, means a 16% VAT will be imposed on fuel, content creators will be subjected  to a 5% tax and Betting and insurance companies withholding taxes will be charged at 12.5% and 16% respectively among other key taxes.

 

The Bill sailed through after 184 MPs voted Yes against only 88 who voted No.

 

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and Esther Passaris hit headlines during the voting as they both voted against their coalition stands.
