Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks International Appearance Record

On his 200 international outing, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game-winning goal, scoring a late goal to secure a close victory over Iceland.

The veteran skipper salvaged a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night by scoring the game-winning goal in stoppage time, blasting home from close range.

Speaking after breaking the record, Ronaldo said it was an amazing achievement.

“For me, it’s an unbelievable achievement; it’s amazing,” he said after the match. “And, of course, to score the winning goal, it’s even more special. We didn’t play so well, but sometimes football is like that, but we scored a goal, and, in my opinion, we deserved it. I’m so happy because of the 200 caps, but this is even more special.” He said.

The goal was awarded by VAR after initially being ruled out for offside.

The goal extended Ronaldo’s record for most international goals to 123.In March, Ronaldo of Al-Nassr beat Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait’s 196-cap record. Guinness World Records presented him with a certificate before the game to commemorate this most recent achievement.

He however still remains behind Lionel Messi in terms of number of records broken
