Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has ordered teachers to ensure lessons in in primary and secondary schools run for a maximum of six hours.
Speaking while addressing a headteachers at the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association chairman Indimuli Kahi at his Office in Jogoo House, the CS stated that learning should start at 8:00 a.m and end at 3:45 pm.
According to him, the timeline issued is enough as the remaining hours allow students to read independently and engage in extracurricular activities.
While defending the choice of hours, he gave an example of Finland which uses only 3 hours yet it remains to have a world class education system.
“Finland has a 3-hour teaching regime yet it is reputed to have a world-class system of education. Schools need to adhere to the school hours which allows learners to manage learning and engage in physical education activities,”Machogu said
