West Ham Wins The Europa Conference League
West Ham defeated Fiorentina 2-1 to win the UEFA Conference League on Wednesday evening.
The Hammers took the lead when Said Benrahma scored a 62nd-minute goal after a penalty was awarded to West Ham after VAR review.
Fiorentina drew level just minutes later through Giacomo Bonaventura after poor defending from Moyes side. In the final minutes of the game, Bowen pounced on a feed from Lucas Paqueta and blasted home a low finish to set off wild celebrations at the Fortuna Arena.
West Ham had been without a significant trophy for more than 40 years. With this victory, they have now won a European trophy twice. Additionally, it secures their spot in the Europa League for the following season with a finish of 14th in the Premier League.
Speaking after the win, West Ham boss David Moyes was happy with his team.
“This is fantastic. I’ve had a long career in football, and you don’t get many moments like this. Thankfully, tonight we’ve had a great time and we’ve got the result we wanted.” These sorts of moments as a manager don’t come around too often. You have to work very hard. You don’t get enough good moments in football sometimes, but today is a great moment for us.” He said.
