Edin Dzeko Leads Inter Milan In Beating AC Milan

Inter Milan defeated AC Milan 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals at the San Siro on Wednesday night.

AC Milan was caught off guard twice in the space of 11 minutes as Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored early goals to give the Nerazzuri a 2-0 lead going into the May 16 return leg.

It could have been worse for AC Milan since Lautaro Martinez appeared to have been tripped inside the box by Simon Kjaer, and Spanish referee Manzano pointed to the spot. He reversed the initial penalty ruling and the yellow card given to the Dane after being persuaded to do so by VAR.

AC Milan produced little to threaten Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana as they were missing their star man, Rafael Leao, through injury.

Speaking after the game, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli remained confident in his team.

“We have to build on the attitude of the second half. We had the chance to get the game back on track,” he added. “We made mistakes in the passing game, and we will have to put in an absolutely different performance from tonight.” He said.
