Two Children Drown In Dam

Police in Luweero District have confirmed the death of two children who drowned in a flooded dam at Mulajje Village, Bamunanika Sub-county.
The deceased identified as 11-year-old Lukwago Dennis and 12-year-old Mukisa Jordan who were under the care of one of the sisters at St. Bonaventure Catholic Parish had reportedly visited the dam to fish when the tragedy befell them.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Wamala Gerald expressed his sadness upon receiving the sad news of the passing of the toddlers.
“We have lost two children that drowned in the dam. The two were under the guardianship of one of the Sisters attached to our parish. It’s a very sad moment,’’ he said.
Sister Nakawuka Vicentia, the acting guardian of the deceased children for the past three years revealed that she had gone for prayers when the boys drowned.
“I picked these children from the community…I just received the news that they had drowned. The community has been fishing at this particular dam. I ask God for forgiveness because I have failed this particular test after keeping these children for three years,” she cried out.
Twineamazima Sam, Savannah Region acting police spokesperson confirmed the death of the children whose bodies had been discovered in a swamp. They were later taken to Luweero hospital for postmortem.
“They possibly failed to maneuver through the water and drowned. This happened at 10 PM on Thursday,” he said.
