Student Escapes From School To Meet His Death
Police in Fort Portal, Western Uganda have confirmed the death of 17-year-old Bilson Musinguzi, a senior three student at St. Leo’s College Kyegobe who drowned in an artificial reservoir in Kijanju Cell, Virika Ward Central Division.
According to facts gathered, the deceased who was in the company of his three friends left school at 9:00 AM without permission from the school administrators, dodging the patriotism training that was happening at the school playground.
The four students reportedly went for a swim at a water reservoir which is located at about one kilometer from the school. The deceased was the first to undress and jump into the water ignoring his friends’ caution.
“His fellow students stopped him and he refused. He then entered into the water and drowned in the process,” Rwenzori West police spokesperson Twesige Vincent confirmed the news.
He further stated that his friends waited for him to reappear in vain. They panicked and ran back to school but did not report the incident until the school bursar received a phone call with information about Musinguzi’s death.
The deceased’s body was retrieved by police working hand in hand with the residents of the area and taken to Fort Portal regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
