Kenyan Budding Footballer Joins Manchester City

Ex-Kenya rugby star and Kenya Rugby League development manager Lucas Onyango is a proud dad after his son Aymen Onyango signed for Manchester City.

 

Aymen signed for the England giants U9 team.

 

Lucas Onyango, now residing in Manchester, UK, took to Twitter on Monday evening revealing that his young boy had earned a place in the reigning English Premier League champion’s youth setup. He added that it is something that Aymen Onyango has been yearning for in many years.

 

“Our son Aymen Lucas Onyango is now officially a Manchester City player after signing for the Under 9’s. In my life, I have never been this proud, and this boy has worked hard to get here. The journey begins now that he has progresses through the academy. We are all over the moon,” tweeted Odhiambo.

 

Lucas Onyango Senior in his heydays,played for the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine RFC. He also played for the Kenyan sevens team, The Shujaa, at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, after which he joined Manchester RFC before eventually settling with his family in the UK.

 

He hopes his son will one day  becomes the first-ever Kenyan to feature for Manchester City  senior team.

 

He joins the growing list of players with Kenyan roots to join prestigious academies in England. Others include Brooklyn Mwadime Kazungu at Leicester City, Middlesbrough’s George Gitau, Silko Amari Otieno Thomas of Chelsea, and Leo Messo at Arsenal.

 

Tyler Onyango, who came through Everton’s ranks, has since made his first-team debut and featured against big guns like Manchester City and Chelsea.
