Residents of Kiralaka Village in Budaka District, Eastern Uganda were left in shock after they discovered the body of a primary pupil hanging on a tree.

The 15-year-old deceased was a primary seven pupil at Kamonkoli Mixed Boarding and day primary school and was staying with her paternal auntie Mugala Peace and her husband Nyege Jackson when she committed suicide on Saturday Night.

The incident was confirmed by Kebba Stephen, the LC chairman who revealed that the body was found hanging on the avocado tree in her aunt’s compound.

The school head teacher Muduko Fredrick, stated that the death of one of their pupils came as a shock as they did not expect a child her age to take her own life.

“We strongly condemn the pupil’s decision to commit suicide. This was not the best alternative to address her concerns. This is unfortunate and regrettable,” he revealed.

The circumstances under which the victim committed suicide are still unclear but according to Semewo Samuel, North Bukedi Regional police spokesperson, investigations into the matter are still on going.

“People including teenagers facing challenges beyond their control should always seek counselling from relevant authorities instead of taking their lives,” Semewo said.

The body of the deceased was taken to Mbale Regional Hospital for postmortem before handing it over to her relatives for burial. She was laid to rest at Namusango Village, Budaka District.
