Serial Human Trafficker Arrested In Nairobi’s Kasarani Area

A woman suspected to be a human trafficker was arrested in Kasarani over the weekend.

Christine Masika was arrested by the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation along Eastern Bypass following tip from Residence.

The success of the mission was achieved after the officers disguised themselves as buyers interested in purchasing the minor (five-day old boy) at a fee of Ksh 400,000.

When interrogated, the suspect claimed that she got the boy after being left by a woman she encountered in a bus.

The DCI has however dismissed the claim revealing that the woman had sold another child the previous week.

The suspect is in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, April 11 as the search for her accomplices continue.

A similar scenario occurred in January when a Tanzanian national Sengo Nestroy was sentenced to 30 years jail term for trafficking minors after being exposed by BBC News Africa.

Sengo has been living in Kenya since 2001 and was arrested in 2022 after he was exposed for trafficking disabled minors.

The BBC investigations revealed that the minors were harbored in Kariobangi North and those stolen in Tanzania would be trafficked to Nairobi and Thika.

Some of the victims were also taken from parents with promises for better life only to land on streets as beggars on behalf of their master, Sengo.

However, Sengo was jailed for exploiting the physically disabled children for personal economic gain.
