Raila: Ruto Initiated My Handshake With Uhuru

Azimio La Umoja Leader Raila Odinga has dismissed claims that he used handshake  to secure a place in the Jubilee regime.

Speaking during the Azimio La Umoja Parliamentary meeting in Machakos, Raila disclosed that the truce between him and Uhuru had nothing to do with his involvement in the previous government.

“This idea that the handshake is what caused problems is hogwash. We did not participate in Uhuru’s government,” he said.

He further revealed that President William Ruto was the initiator of the handshake between him and the former president adding that he never lost an election.

“The author of the handshake is none other than President William Ruto, we did not lose any of the elections,” he said.

The idea of handshakes comes after the Azimio la Umoja supporters engaged in countrywide demonstrations against the Kenya Kwanza Government Led by President William Ruto. The current government speculates that the protests are pushing for a truce between the two parties something that Raila objects.

“We have formed our team that will have a dialogue with the Kenya Kwanza team, for reforms. We want our demands met. We want to remove the last vestiges of an imperial presidency,” he added.

ODM leader also wants the government to consider restructuring IEBC by dissolving structures to the counties, and whether the counties really need commissioners working on a permanent basis as well.

“We want a review and forensic audit of the servers used by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission before, during and after the 2022 general election,” he said
