Thugs Storm Seminary Injure Priests, Steal Church Tabernacle
Police in Wakiso have opened an active investigation into the aggravated robbery that happened at Nswanjere Junior Seminary School located in Muduuma, Mpigi District.
According to the police report, the robbery happened at around 3:00 AM on the morning of 20th March 2023 when a group of unknown assailants accessed the school premises by cutting the barbed wire fence.
During the robbery, Rev. Father Emmanuel Mukukule was beaten on the head and is currently receiving medical attention at Rubaga Hospital. Rev. Godfrey Kyeyune was also beaten using a pair of plies that injured his left hand. Brother Mwasa John Bosco and Rev. Fr. Kigundu John Bosco were robbed of their money and phones.
Some of the items that were stolen include hard cash, a laptop, Television set, mobile phones and the church tabernacle.
The Wakiso Police visited the crime scene for forensic evidence and recovered a bag of coins a few meters from the crime scene.
The gang is on the run but the police have assured the members of the public that they are to do everything possible to see that they are apprehended and ensure that the area is secure.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigirye encouraged the public to always be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity.
“We urge members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police promptly. Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is encouraged to come forward and share it with the police.” He said.
Following the robbery, the head of Kampala Archdiocese, Archbishop Paul Ssemwogerere declared a three day prayer and fasting period starting Tuesday 21st March (yesterday) to Friday 24th March as an act of atonement to the seminary.
